The new Minister of Agrarian Development and IrrigationOscar Zea Choquechambi, addressed the situation of the Majes-Siguas II irrigation project and expressed his concern about its delays and problems, which have prevented this project from going ahead, which will allow the agricultural frontier to be expanded by 38,500 hectares.
During the “First Regional Agrarian Summit of Arequipa”, he announced a series of meetings with the authorities of the White City to evaluate the possibility of resuming the project, which had to be signed in its thirteenth addendum until December of last year with the Spanish company Cobra.
“We from the ministry are going to talk with all the authorities to direct (this project) to speed it up. We are going to sit down with the authorities such as the PCM, regional governments and technicians, convene everyone and seek solutions for this project”, he stressed.
Then, in statements to the press, Minister Zea stated that the Cabinet will seek a vote of confidence in Congress in a short time, and for this they will “establish dialogue and bridges with the different political forces.”
“We can not be confrontational, or shouting, or insults, the medium is dialogue,” he said.
On the other hand, Zea asked Congress to discuss the bill for the Second Agrarian Reform, to achieve greater attention to the problems of small producers.
“The bill for the Second Agrarian Reform is already in Congress and the president of the Legislature must schedule it for debate, and thus we will direct this Second Agrarian Reform as soon as possible, which is the proposal and flag of the president, Pedro Castillo” , said the minister.
