APEC: Peru becomes the host of the Forum in 2024

After in 2021, President Pedro Castillo makes official the announcement of Peru’s offer to assume the Presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) in 2024 and become the venue for the Leaders’ Summit that year, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has confirmed this news. He also announced that in the coming weeks the delegates of the Forum will begin communications to delegate future activities in our country.

In the same way, the organizers are already in the organization of the agreed Aotearoa Action Plan to achieve the Putrajaya Vision 2040which will develop activities for APEC for the next twenty years.

For Peru, this is the third time that it has won the presidency, since previous years it has already had the opportunity to host in 2008 and 2016.

According to the Thai Prime Minister, the aforementioned Forum will seek to provide economic approaches that allow the development and sustainability of each country.

“The Thailand theme is driven by our vision to address the imbalances revealed by the pandemic and achieve growth through model integration. Bio-Circular-Green (BCG), three well-established economic development approaches, in the region’s economy,” the prime minister noted.

As recalled, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) aims to “intensify the feeling of Asia Pacific community and reduce the differences between the economies of the region through a path of sustainable growth”. It is made up of 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
