At the first press conference of the cabinet led by Aníbal Torres this Wednesday, February 9, the ratified Minister of Defense, Joseph Louis Gavidiaannounced that the Government will build an airport in Pichari, located in the Vraem region (Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro rivers), and that in the following days the respective coordination with local authorities will begin.
“In the Vraem region, in the next few days, we are going to have meetings with local and regional authorities. to start construction of the airport in the city of Pichari”, indicated the head of the Mindef.
Gavidia reported that there is an agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Transport and Communications to carry out two programs: Uniting Peoples, which seeks to connect the most remote populations (the Pichari airport is one of the works), and Tendiendo Puentes, where it is planned to install around 700 of these infrastructures.
The official pointed out that the request from the regional governments was for work to begin in the Vraem region. “This will allow us to meet all the needs and even be able to reduce the illicit problems in that region,” he pointed out.
Later, he emphasized that from his portfolio he works to support the Ministry of Health with vaccination in border areas and at Ministry of Education with the program to return to face-to-face classes in the most remote places in the country.
“The Armed Forces have the capacity to physically support them to solve these problems”, concluded the Minister of Defense.
