In the case of Bilbao, the Basque institutions and the Ministry of Transport have confirmed that the protocol provides for the construction of a provisional halt in Basauri, which would remain in operation until the Abando underground station is completed.
The main Basque administrations and the Spanish Government signed this Wednesday the protocols for the integration of the High Speed Train (TAV) in Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz, some agreements that include the commitment to build underground stations in both capitals. However, in the case of the arrival of the TAV in Bilbao, the construction of a temporary halt in Basauri.
Both protocols, whose main contents were announced last December by the PNV after including this matter in the negotiation of its support for the General State Budgets (PGE) of 2022, have been signed this Wednesday in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda of the Spanish Government, Rachel Sanchez; the Minister of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport of the Basque Government, Inaki Arriola; the deputy general of Álava, Ramiro Gonzalez; the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Gorka Urtaran; and the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto.
As announced last December, the agreement contemplates that the Basque Government will be in charge of executing part of the civil work of both projects through the ‘management assignment’ formula, for which he will advance the financing and will be in charge of carrying out part of the work, although later the Spanish Executive will reimburse him for the money contributed since the network of the TAV is a state infrastructure.
