Production in Mining and Hydrocarbons fell 6.07% in December

Last December, the production of the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector registered a contraction of 6.07% compared to December 2020, as a result of the less favorable performance of the metal mining subsector at -7.11%, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

This was explained by lower production volumes of iron (-23.0%), zinc (-19.2%), lead (-10.0%), copper (-6.7%) and gold (- 5.4%); on the contrary, molybdenum (9.1%), tin (5.8%) and silver (1.2%) increased.

The hydrocarbons subsector increased by 0.64% due to the effect of higher extraction of crude oil (22.1%) and natural gas (0.2%); while the production of natural gas liquids fell (-7.6%).

Fishing Sector

In the month of December, the Fishing sector decreased by 12.60%, behavior associated with the lower extraction of species of maritime origin (-13.77%); due to the lower landing of the anchoveta resource for indirect human consumption (fishmeal and fish oil).

Thus, 1 million 82,000 tons were extracted compared to 1 million 226,000 tons recorded in the same month of 2020, which meant a decrease of -11.77% due to the lower catch allowed in the current fishing season.

Likewise, the extraction of species for direct human consumption was reduced (-18.46%) destined for preparation of curing (-48.7%), canning (-32.6%), consumption in fresh state (-27 .4%) and frozen (-9.5%).

On the other hand, fishing of continental origin increased 20.53%, due to greater resources for consumption in fresh state and for the preparation of frozen and cured.
