Official resignation of Daniel Salaverry as president of Perupetro

Almost a week after he tendered his resignation as Chairman of Perupetro’s Board of Directors, the Government accepted the resignation of Daniel Salaverry this Tuesday, February 1 through a resolution published today in the official newspaper El Peruano.

The Supreme Resolution was endorsed by the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo Terrones and the Minister of Energy and Mines Eduardo González Toro. Although Salaverry Villa never assumed the position for which he was appointed, he was thanked for the services rendered.

The former president of Congress had been chosen by the Government as leader of Perupetro on January 9, however, a barrage of criticism, questions and accusations regarding the lack of suitability for the position made the Minem leave the case in the hands of the Comptroller General of the Republic.

The constitutional body objected to the appointment of the former presidential candidate, since he did not prove that he met the requirements to assume said position.

Five days later, on January 26, and after several requests from various political fronts to present his irrevocable resignation, Daniel Salaverry decided to step aside.

In the letter presented to Pedro Castillo, the former member of Fuerza Popular regretted that his appointment had been used as a “political destabilization tool” by groups opposed to the Cajamarca teacher’s administration.

“(…) in order to prevent this situation from being used as a political destabilization tool to attack your government, by sectors that have not managed to overcome the electoral defeat and that at the time I faced when I was president of the Congress of the Republic, is that I present my irrevocable resignation”, he pointed out at that time.

Salaverry’s arrival in Perupetro did not go unnoticed in Congress, which yesterday, January 31, questioned Minister González about this issue, despite the fact that the former parliamentarian’s letter of resignation was already public.
