With 99 votes in favor, 5 against and 6 abstentions, the Plenary Session of Congress approved the constitutional reform that strengthens the fight against corruption in the framework of lifting bank secrecy and tax reserves.
The initiative, which still awaits a second vote in the next legislature, empowers the Comptroller General of the Republic and the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFPs (SBS) to access banking and tax secrecy. Sunat will also be empowered to access said information.
Prior to this, the president of the Constitution Commission, Patricia Juárez, presented a new substitute text to correct the wording that had previously been discussed. This is due to the fact that Sunat was deprived of power and put Peru’s entry into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) at risk.
