Repsol will abide by the closure of La Pampilla: “It is disproportionate and unreasonable”

The Spanish energy and petrochemical multinational Repsol announced that it will abide by the Peruvian government’s disposition to paralyze all its hydrocarbon loading and unloading activities in the Grau Sea, although it said it did not agree with its exception.

Through a statement, Repsol confirmed receipt of Resolution No. 00013-2022-OEFA/DSEM, which provides for the closure of Multibuoy Terminals No. 1, 2 and 3, as well as Monobuoy Terminal T – 4, existing in La Pampilla Refinery, until it “submits to OEFA a Management Plan for Hydrocarbon Spills at Sea; as well as the updated certifications of the competent authorities that approve the integrity of said facilities”.

“The company, without prejudice to not sharing the resolution for considering it disproportionate and unreasonable, but in order to guarantee the supply of its products, expresses its full availability to collaborate with the Peruvian authorities, so that the indicated activities can be resumed as soon as possible. ”, indicated Repsol, whose remediation actions continue from Ventanilla to the rest of the coast.

In this sense, the Spanish-owned company maintained that they will carry out all possible actions to prevent the national market from running out of oil-derived fuels during this closure.

“The La Pampilla Refinery supplies 40% of the Peruvian fuel market and, therefore, Repsol will make the greatest efforts to avoid the risk of shortages of essential products for Peruvian citizens and the development of the country,” the company stressed.

It should be noted that Peru is not an oil country. Daily demand is around 250,000 barrels, but local production has not exceeded 40,000 or 60,000, on average, for at least two decades. Everything else matters.

“Meanwhile, Repsol continues to focus all its resources and efforts on cleaning up the spill and supporting the affected populations and fauna,” he added.
