More than 60% of Peruvian companies show concern about facing cybersecurity attacks

According to an EY Information Security Survey (GISS), in Peru the 51% of respondents saw an increase in the number of disruptive attacks since 2020, and 63% are highly concerned about their company’s ability to manage cyber threats.

Elder Cama, consulting partner of EY Peru, affirms that “it is important to be one step ahead, to take preventive measures in terms of cybersecurity. Investing in this sector is essential. According to the survey, in Peru only 42% of companies will invest in data and technology in the next 12 months, and 45% in digital transformation ”.

According to the same survey, at the global level 8 out of 10 executives at the global level affirm that COVID-19 forced organizations to make their cybersecurity processes more flexible. However, few incorporated cybersecurity as part of their business strategy.

In Peru the 55% of companies saw an increase in disruptive attacks in the last 12 months so there is a growing concern about managing cyber threats. More than 63% responded that they are concerned about the vulnerabilities produced by the pandemic.

The financial sector is the most interested in cybersecurity, according to EY Peru’s consulting partner, Elder Cama. “According to the latest report, there is an increase in attacks that could have been avoided if companies had incorporated training. Having a policy in the companies is key ”.

Cama affirmed that it is necessary to have strategic profiles in executive cybersecurity positions. Challenges of companies in cybersecurity

  • Limited budgets: Despite the growing threat of cyber attacks, the cybersecurity budget is insufficient. 39% of those surveyed considered that their budget is lower than what is necessary to face cybersecurity challenges and in Peru 64% indicate that their budget is part of a larger corporate expense such as IT.
  • Regulatory fragmentation: 47% of the information directors of Peruvian companies warn that ensuring compliance with regulations that are increasingly specialized can be the most complicated part of their work. However, 95% believe that security compliance requirements drive correct behaviors.
  • Strengthening relationships: 81% of organizations globally did not include cybersecurity teams in the planning phase of new business initiatives, according to the GISS 2021 survey.
