Cusco: they call for a new blockade in Las Bambas as long as Minem does not consummate negotiations

Four communities in the district of Ccapacmarca, in the province of Chumbivilcas, Cusco, announced a new blockade in the corridor starting tomorrow, Thursday, January 27, as a protest measure against the activities of the Las Bambas mining company.

The community members correspond to the group that refused last week to sign the memorandum of understanding with the conciliatory team sent by the government, which was led by the president of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez.

Hours earlier, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) announced “important agreements” to promote and speed up the execution of projects prioritized by the population, after the culmination of the plenary session of the Technical Table with representatives of the region.

Among the agreements signed, in a consensual manner with the provincial and district authorities of Chumbivilcas and the company Hudbay Minerals, the formation of a working subgroup to promote projects with the Works for Taxes (OxI) mechanism stands out.

The Minem will send the list of projects related to the mechanism to the sectors involved to analyze their situation and viability. Soon, a date will be set to hold a coordination meeting.

Similarly, a working subgroup was installed to channel public projects through the Work Peru program, which aims to generate temporary employment for the population of working age. The director of Work Peru, Adolfo Vizcarra, provided the guidelines of the program and informed that the cut-off date for the presentation of technical files is next January 31.

The high commissioner of the Special Attention Zone of the PCM, José Muro, participated in the meeting; the mayor of Chumbivilcas, Nadia Pallo; the district mayors of Llusco, Velille, Quiñota, Colquemarca, Livitaca, Capaccmarca, Chamaca; representatives of various ministries, of the Hudbay mining company, among other actors.
