INEI will carry out the V National Economic Census to learn about the impact of COVID-19 on companies

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) He indicated that he will carry out the V National Economic Census (CENEC) with the aim of having updated basic statistical and economic information on companies that produce goods and services. This registration will be carried out between the months of April and November 2022.

After 14 years, more than 2 million establishments that carry out some economic activity in the country will be registered. The registry will allow information to be obtained on the loss of employment, sales, the change in economic activity and, in turn, the impact of the unprecedented crisis caused by COVID-19.

They reported that the V CENEC will be held in two phases: between April and November 2022. Its results will serve for the formulation and evaluation of public policies related to productivity, competitiveness and employment.

In the first phase, the census will be carried out on establishments whose registration will be through single form embedded in a tablet. In the second, it will be carried out between June and November through self-registration, through web forms.

The establishments to be registered will be located in urban areas, distributed in 196 provinces of the 24 departments and Callao, practically a third of these are in Lima.

They also reported that the V CENEC will provide basic economic information for the public and private sectors. The results will show the economic characteristics of the companies and establishments according to geographical levels and by economic activity.

In addition, economic information will be available to complement the data required for the change of the base year of the National Accounts, and so that the main economic indicators have a reference year that is representative of the country’s economy.
