Confiep urges Repsol to accelerate remediation and repair work in affected areas

After the spill of 6,000 barrels of oil at the Multiboyas No. 2 terminal of the La Pampilla refinery, in Window, institutions and politicians have spoken out to condemn this fact that has affected fishermen, animals and various ecosystems.

Such is the case of the Confiep, which through a statement lamented the ecological disaster caused by the oil spill that has contaminated the beaches of Ventanilla, Ancón, Santa Rosa and even part of Huaral and Huacho, to the north of Chile.

“We ask the Repsol company to accelerate the remediation and repair work that is essential to reverse the consequences to the marine ecosystem as well as the affected population”, reads the document that was released through the institution’s Twitter account.

Regarding the ecological disaster produced by the company Repsol, it should be noted that the Environmental Assessment and Control Agency (OEFA) of the Ministry of the Environment reported that the area affected by the oil spill in Ventanilla is 1,739,000 square meters.

In another section of the document, Confiep asked the relevant authorities to “carry out an immediate investigation to determine the causes, those responsible and apply the corresponding sanctions and reparations.”

Fishermen ask for compensation

“We live from fishing, and because of the oil spill we can’t work. Who is going to replace what we have lost?”, demanded one of the thousands of fishermen affected in Ancón, Santa Rosa and Ventanilla. They are adrift and do not know when they will return to the sea.

After the meeting at the La Pampilla refinery, the Minister of the Environment reported that Repsol has offered to give them food baskets and hire them to carry out decontamination and removal of these chemical substances.
