The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Robert Sanchez, pointed out that the serious hydrocarbon spill that occurred in Ventanilla (Lima) is an environmental crime that cannot go unpunished for damaging the marine ecosystem, the Ancón resort and other beaches on the central coast of Peru. As he specified, ecological repair with clean technologies is an immediate requirement for Repsol, a company whose license should be evaluated and suspended accordingly.

In this way, Sánchez affirmed that there is a real economic impact for those who live directly and indirectly from tourism and fishing in that area of ​​the country.

“In addition to the terrible damage to marine and wildlife, we have another that is worrying: the impact on families who live from tourism. The bathers allowed businesses related to tourism and recreation to generate economic income, which has now been lost, “said the minister.

The head of the Mincetur mentioned that Repsol must take responsibility and compensate the Peruvian State, the affected families, the artisanal fishermen and the local authorities. “As citizens we urge good offices to the Spanish Government,” he said.

“The aforementioned company has an insurance policy that must cover civil liability for the damage caused. We demand a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible, “he concluded.
