ELA, LAB and CCOO criticize the high accident rate and the precariousness of the forestry sector

To report the work accident that occurred yesterday in Pipaón, Álava, ELA, LAB, ESK, Steilas, HIRU and EHNE will meet tomorrow at noon in front of the employer’s headquarters in Vitoria-Gasteiz and the CCOO has announced that it will do so an hour earlier in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca.

Unions ELA, LAB y CCOO have denounced this Thursday the death yesterday in work accident of an operator who worked in forestry work in Pipaón (Álava) and have criticized the “brutal accident rate” and the high level of precariousness suffered by this sector.

This 46-year-old worker died when a large branch fell on him while he was carrying out logging tasks in a wooded area of ​​Alto de Herrera near the council of Pipaón, belonging to the Lagrán town of Alava.

In a statement, ELA has denounced that with this they are already four people who have died in occupational accidents in the CAV and Navarra so far this year, two of them in Alava.

After show your support for relatives of the deceased, this union has considered that the annual death figures in a sector such as forestry, which represents a small part of economic activity, are “bleeding”, with five fatal accidents in 2021.

“These figures are totally proportional to the situations of precariousness suffered by workers in the sector. If we add to this the laziness of the Public Administration and the continuous breaches of the Prevention Law, we get a brutal accident rate“, he stated.
