The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) granted 523 new radio and television authorizations in 2021, benefiting more than 3 million Peruvians with TV stations in the VHF band and new FM radio stations.
Of the total authorizations, 339 will provide the radio service and 184 are intended to broadcast a signal on television. 57.7% of authorizations were for commercial purposes, 39.6% for educational purposes and 2.7% for community purposes. In addition, there was a numerical growth compared to the previous year.
“The objective is to entertain and promote education, culture and national integration,” the MTC said in a statement.
The number of authorized broadcasting stations increased by 5.2% compared to 2020. In the VHF band, for the first time, 115 districts will have access to television, which will benefit more than 364,000 people.
Similarly, for the first time, 67 districts will benefit from the FM sound broadcasting service, which can be accessed by more than 116,000 people.
“Thanks to these authorizations, many remote locations will have access to radio and television service for the first time,” said the general director of Telecommunications Authorizations of the MTC, Miguel Hilario.
Finally, the MTC reported that 83% of the FM radio and VHF television stations granted, during the year 2021, are located in rural areas throughout the entire national territory.
“It shows the commitment of broadcasters to invest in these remote places to promote social and cultural development as well as the support of the State, through a simplified regime, with economic benefits for those who bet on these isolated localities”, he sent.
