Communities of Ayacucho resumed their protests against the operations of the mining units Apumayo, Breapampa, Pallancata e immaculate, after the Executive ordered the creation of a Working Group for the development of the provinces of Lucanas, Parinacochas and Páucar del Sara Sara, in the area of influence.
In the opinion of the locals, the Ministerial Resolution No. 010-2022-PCM that provides 180 days to this working group to present a final report “does not meet the requirements agreed upon” during the dialogue table in Coracora, on March 19. November.
According to the Bloomberg agency, the representatives of the Committee to Fight Mining Pollution in the South of Ayacucho claim that the PCM resolution “speaks of everything except the existing mining environmental conflict.”
In this sense, they reiterated their request for the creation of a “Executive commission” that complies with the 90 days offered by the Government for the closure of the four mines, and not of a “working group” for environmental and social development.
As it is recalled, on November 19, Prime Minister Mirtha Vásquez said that the Apumayo, Breapampa, Pallancata and Inmaculada fields would not benefit from extensions of their operating licenses, due to alleged signs of contamination. Days later, he would clarify that this closing process would not take place unilaterally.
For their part, both Hochschild and Apumayo, parent companies of the mines involved, have assured that they fully comply with OEFA regulations and expect to continue operating in the south of Ayacucho.
