After in 2021 the fishing industry has contributed with more than US$ 2,300 million in exports of fishmeal and fish oil, which represented an increase of 60% in relation to 2020, the National Fisheries Society (SNP) expects that the shipments of the sector for this 2022 will be located above US$ 2,000 million, a lower amount than last year.

The union leader also expressed that it is expected that this 2022 the sector fishing grow 4% given the good health of the biomass and the favorable oceanographic conditions. This projection is in line with that estimated by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

“We believe that this projection goes hand in hand because this time the southern season opened on time, in January, versus last year, which opened in March. We are also aligned with it even though we think that the share of anchoveta It will be the same as this year and not higher because the jack mackerel season opened earlier than last year, and these two terms can explain this 4% increase,” Aljovín explained.

The SNP also specified that landings of anchoveta made in the ports of the country during the year 2021 reached 5 million 100,000 metric tons (MT) as a result of the good performance of the industrial fleet after fulfilling the quota assigned by the Ministry of Production (Produce) in the two seasons of fishing of the aforementioned resource in the north central zone of the country. This represents an increase of 20% in relation to landings in 2020.
