Gipuzkoa will transfer 25.1 million from the covid state fund to the municipalities

The resources may be allocated both to the reinforcement of fundamental public services (health, education and social services) and to the exercise of other powers.

The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa will transfer 25.1 million from covid-19 funds to municipalities received from the State, which may be used both to reinforce fundamental public services such as health, education and social services, as well as to the exercise of other powers.

The deputy general of Gipuzkoa, Markel Olano, met this Thursday with the mayors of San Sebastián, Eibar and Oñati; Eneko Goia, Jon Iraola and Izaro Elorza, respectively, to inform you about said transfer of resources, which will be approved next week by the Provincial Government Council.

During the meeting, the regional official recalled that the institutional and financing system of the Basque Country is governed by “criteria of risk and shared responsibility”. In his opinion, said shared responsibility supposes a more rigorous and diligent management of all public administrations, “which brings with it a better service for citizens”.

The general deputy has recalled that the financing of the town councils “is experiencing a good moment”, since, according to the pre-settlement for the year 2021 approved last October, receive an extra contribution of another 55 million euros more of budgets.

The Basque Council of Public Finance met electronically last december 28, where the distribution among the historical territories of a proportional part of the total resources from the fund activated by the State to neutralize the budgetary impact of the pandemic was agreed.

Total, €188 million of which, in line with the coefficients established in the Contributions Law, 62.9 million euros have corresponded to Gipuzkoa.

The Diputación of this territory, “as soon as it receives these resources”, has executed its decision to distribute them with the city councils of the territory, who correspond to 40% of them.

Thus, Saint Sebastian will receive a contribution of 6 850 000 euros. For their part, the main localities of the territory will receive the following amounts: Irun 2 131 000 euros, Renteria 1 337 000 euros, Eibar 942 000 euros, Zarautz 783 000 euros, Arrasate-Mondragon 746 775 euros, Hernani 691 000 euros, Toulouse 670 000 euros, Lasarte-Oria 626 000 euros, Hondarribia €569,000 and Azpeitia 509 000 euros.
