In four months of the year there is a greater job search in Ecuador; January is the highest month

The job boards indicate that in January, July, September and October there are a greater number of open vacancies by companies.

Job search increases in four months of the year, as recorded by various job boards operating in the country.

Both Adecco, Multitrabajos and the portal Find Employment of the Ministry of Labor (MDT) point out that January, July, September and October appear as the highest months in applications of people looking for a formal job.

In those months, the age group that made the most applications for job offers created by human talent seekers is the 18 to 29 year old.

Sebastián Lima, Director of Quality & Service Adecco Ecuador, states that in the case of the consultancy, the first quarter of the year (January to March) is the period that registers “a greater increase in applications by candidates.”

Meanwhile, the MDT details that the months with the highest number of applications are in September with 258,593, followed by January with 253,971 and July with 251,655 applications made by citizens in search of a job opportunity within the Find Employment platform.

During the year 2021, on average, approximately 222,832 monthly applications to the different job offers in both the public and private sectors, says the Labor portfolio, which adds that a person can apply for several job offers simultaneously.

According the Human Talent expert Grecia Logroño, the behavior in these months is explained by different variables that obey to temporalities that are traditionally marked in the country.

For example, in January, with the beginning of the year, companies define the number of places they are willing to open. These decisions are generally made after analyzing how you performed the previous year. In that month, in addition to being the first of the year, generally there is already a work plan for twelve months that includes, among other issues, new hires according to the line of business, says Logroño.

Likewise, people who are unemployed take the beginning of the year as a goal to get a job; so the search intensifies in that month.

Christopher Alarcón, in fact, set himself this goal. The young man, 24, completed his university studies in business administration in December 2021 and began his job search since the beginning of this month. So far, of the seven pages on which he has placed his resume, he has been called by two companies for virtual interviews.

Edwin Zambrano, 19, also aspires to enter a supermarket chain in the following month. “I applied for a vacancy for the cashier position at the beginning of the year and they called me this week to start the aptitude and psychological tests,” he says.

The expert explains that, in addition to January, the trend of opening vacancies and applications continues until March. “In the first quarter, in many cases, employees are hired for permanent positions. However, there is a ‘mix’ since the supply and demand of temporary places for high production and trade dates such as Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day also increases.”, dice.

In the case of September and October, for example, it is due to a seasonality due to high sales dates Black Friday, which is celebrated in November, and Christmas, in December. In this sense, Logroño highlights, the segments of pharmacies, department stores and supermarkets are the ones that stand out as the businesses that request more personnel in those months.

The multi-job platform agrees with Logroño and adds that, despite the fact that the last two years have been irregular due to the pandemic, January, September and October are months when searches tend to increase in the country. Also, although to a lesser extent, increases can be seen between May and June, says the job market.

The activities that most require staff

According to the MDT data, there are five activities that have required the most personnel in the last three years. In fact, these activities were also those that signed the most contracts in 2021.

First are the service-type activities, that increased their number of requested vacancies in 2021 by 19% compared to 2020 and by 51%, if 2019 is taken into account.

Another activity that constantly requires new staff is that of the construction, which grew in its number of vacancies in 2021.

According to Adecco, the three fields that occupy the first places both in demand from companies and in search of candidates are focused on the commercial areas (marketing and sales), followed by information technology and human resources. Multitasking adds to these positions the demand in the areas of supply and logistics, call center Y telemarketing. (I)
