Indecopi proposes to improve the Healthy Eating Law

The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) It will convene a working table to evaluate the need to prepare a proposal for the reform of the Healthy Eating Law and its regulations, which will allow consumers to offer a healthier diet.

Part of this initiative aims to take into account the results of laboratory tests to measure trans fat in food and seek that they are supported by conformity assessment.

The executive president of Indecopi, Julián Palacín Gutiérrez, indicated that, although there is legislation on this matter, a legislative reform in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and the General Directorate of Environmental Health and Food Safety (Digesa), to strengthen efforts for healthy eating.

Palacín Gutiérrez met with the head of the National Quality Institute (Inacal), Clara Gálvez Castillo, and her technical teams to propose the execution of a hand-in-hand work for the benefit of consumers through duly updated laboratory tests and test methods and accredited before the Inacal.

Likewise, Gálvez Castillo was in favor of continuing giving technical assistance, through Peruvian technical standards and of the accreditation, so that they can serve as support to the legislation on the matter and thus the competent sector proceeds to the regulation.
