Urkullu proposes to have a strategic gas reserve “as transitional energy”

Urkullu has participated in the opening of the conference “The Future of Science and Innovation” held between today and tomorrow in Bilbao.

With regard to his approach to achieving a State Pact for Energy, the Lehendakari believes that he must respond to five scopes.

First of all, to the energy poverty. It is a direct competence of the Government and the Basque institutions, and Urkullu has promised to increase the budget allocated to fight against this problem by 40%.

Second, it has pointed out “the desirability of a common energy policy that allows to invest in joint acquisition and storage with a long-term vision and to have a strategic reserve of gas as transition energy “.

Third, he has advocated for accelerate the energy and environmental transition, prioritizing renewable energies and energy efficiency, based on the “Basque Green Deal” commitment. He added that industry, technology and digitization must be at the center of an inclusive and sustainable development model.

Likewise, it has proposed “aligning energy policy with industrial policy”, temporarily eliminating external costs that make energy more expensive and make the industry less competitive, and encouraging the establishment of stable energy contracts.

Finally, it considers that this State Pact “must also have a component of social commitment and contribute to sensitize citizens in relation to energy saving, from the harshness of realism and from the obligation to act responsibly.
