Payment of public services over $ 76 can only be made through digital channels in financial institutions

Since January 1, 2022, the provision of the Monetary and Financial Regulation Board that establishes virtual channels as a method of payment for public services in financial entities.

This was established in resolution 672-2021-F of August 3, 2021 and set a maximum date of December 31 for the correspondent entities to implement the necessary mechanisms for the collection of these payments by debit account, electronic transfer, card credit, debit card or other electronic means. The same provision governs the auxiliary payment systems of the Central Bank.

The Board clarified that payments equal to or less than 76 dollars may continue to be made at the windows of the correspondent entities of the Central Bank, either as electronic or physical payment. Similarly, the windows of public entities may carry out physical collection regardless of the amount.

The Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) indicated that the payment of employer obligations of employers and affiliates exceeding 76 dollars will only be collected through digital channels of financial entities.

“Payment by virtual means streamlines the service and provides security to the user, in addition, it guarantees that employers comply with their obligations on time and workers access the benefits and services of the IESS, uninterruptedly,” said a statement. .
