The pros and cons of the ITU raise of S / 200

Roberth Orihuela

If you previously earned S / 30,800 per year, you had to pay a percentage of your salary as Income Tax in favor of the State. This will change in 2022, because with the increase in the Tax Tax Unit (UIT) –a S/ 4600– The payment of Income Tax will only apply to those who earn more than S / 32 thousand. In counterpart, fines and administrative procedures of the state apparatus will be increasedAll are governed by the value of the ITU. This is how specialists Jorge Sosa Torres and Luis Castro Sucapuca warn.

Castro Sucapuca, who is a Public Accountant specialized in Taxation and a professor at the Universidad Católica San Pablo (UCSP), explains that the UIT is a tax index around which the taxes and fees of the state apparatus revolve.. And it is governed with respect to the inflation suffered by the country’s economy. If inflation increases by 2%, as is normal, the UIT is increased by 50 soles. And so it has been in recent years.

“This is the first time in more than two decades that we have seen such a large increase in ITU. In recent years there were very small increases of 50 soles, or even years in which it did not change. But 2021 we have closed it with an inflation of 6%This is why it has suddenly increased by S / 200 ″, explains the UCSP professor.

Consequences

Castro Sucapuca indicates that not everything is bad. One of the favorable consequences will be reflected in taxes that workers must pay which are in the fourth and fifth category.

For example, payroll workers who earn up to 2,300 soles per month will not pay income tax. Until 2021, those who earned more than 2,200 soles did so.

Similarly, workers who emit Receipts for fees with a monthly average of S / 3,354 will not pay income tax. In 2021, the monthly amount should not exceed S / 3 208. “And there is also a benefit for those who seek a loan from the My Home system, since the subsidy they will receive will be greater,” adds the specialist.

For his part, Sosa Torres, who is a Commercial Engineer, points out that the vast majority of Peruvians are not affected by the increase in ITU, since many still remain in the informal sector. “It is true that the ITU is very important, but those who are most pending are those who must pay taxes and those who carry out procedures in State institutions such as municipalities. Then people are very carefree, “he warns.

Sosa Torres explains that fines or payments for administrative procedures of all state institutions are determined according to the value of the ITU. For example, a fine may cost a percentage of the value of the UIT, and this amount will be different by 2022; that is, it will increase.
