In 2021, Antamina and three mines paid tax debts

The miner Antamina paid S / 800 million to the Peruvian State for the concept of tax debt. In the last week of 2021, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, announced the payment made by a company, however, he did not reveal what it was.

“There is a reduction in the fiscal deficit facilitated by a better tax inspection. And I have to announce that there is an important mining company that has made a payment of about S / 800 million to the treasury in the previous days “, mentioned.

The sanction to the company is due to an alleged “accelerated depreciation” that detected the call with respect to the years 2013, 2014 and 2015. However, the mining company announced that it will file legal actions before the Sunat, the Tax Court and the Judicial Power to recover what was paid.

Four mining companies paid their debts

Including Antamina, last year, four large mining companies paid off their debts with the state. The amount paid as a whole amounted to more than S / 5,100 million.

Between July and August, the Cerro Verde Mining Society paid a total of S / 1,476 million. Of which, S / 1,040 million were for the Special Tax on Mining (Law No. 29789), the Mining Royalties Regime (Law No. 28258 and Law No. 29788) and their respective fines for the tax periods comprised between in 2009 and 2013 millions.

Meanwhile, an additional S / 436 million belonged to a debt determined in a 2010 income tax audit process.

In that line, the Buenaventura mining company also paid Sunat a figure higher than S / 2,134 million.

The sum had been determined by the tax entity in the Income Tax inspection processes corresponding to the periods 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 and the respective fines were added to this.

Finally, MMG, owner of Las Bambas, paid US $ 170,660,389, an equivalent to more than S / 690 million. This is due to the concept of fines and interest inherited from the years 2011 and 2012, when it was owned by Glencore.
