The Executive Branch extended the validity of remote work in our country for one year. In this way, this modality can be used in both the public and private sectors, until December 31, 2022.
In this regard, the labor lawyer Ricardo Herrera mentioned that this work modality created in the pandemic is here to stay, for which he welcomed the extension of the measure, since the health crisis has not yet ended and working from home helps prevent the spread of Covid-19.
However, he considered that by 2023 the current teleworking law should be updated, since many companies would choose to continue applying remote work or a mixed modality (virtual and face-to-face).
Changes are urgently needed
For his part, Julio César Bazán, president of the Central Unitary of Workers of Peru (CUT), indicated that the extension of the remote work it was done without consulting the trade union centrals.
He specified that, although it is necessary to continue working from home, a modality that really benefits workers must be applied.
“We consider that it is correct that there is virtual work, but with shared costs with employers”, added the union leader.
Bazán Figueroa explained that with remote work, workers are having extra costs, since they must pay more for electricity, hire higher quality internet and have electronic equipment.
In this sense, he asked the Executive that this can be evaluated for the benefit of the workers.
