ECLAC: Peru is the fourth economy with the best outlook in Latin America for 2022

According to the latest forecasts of the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC), the Peru it is expected to be the fourth fastest growing economy in the region in 2022, with 4.4%.

The entity’s report called ‘Economic Study of Latin America and the Caribbean 2021 ′, launched last October, showed that Peru has one of the gross domestic product (PBI) with better prospects for next year, only behind Panama, with 8.2%; Dominican Republic, with 5.5% and El Salvador, with 4.6%.

Although our country would remain one of the leaders in the region, in terms of growth at a general level, it would drop one position compared to 2021 since ECLAC anticipates that we will close this year at 10.6%, only behind Guyana (16%) and Panama (12%).

Until the third quarter of 2021 the peruvian economy recorded a cumulative GDP growth of 11.4%, driven by the resumption of most activities and the relaxation of different sanitary control measures, highlighted the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

The following table shows the list of countries that are included in the agency’s studies.

However, the agency maintained that the perspectives may vary depending on “uneven progress in the processes of vaccination and the capacity of the countries to reverse the structural problems behind the low growth trajectory they exhibited before the pandemic ”.

In its report, the agency also states that economies should channel their investments towards sectors that promote a new style of development and that can enhance competitiveness, employment, and lower the environmental footprint. These are: the transition towards renewable energies, sustainable mobility in cities, the digital revolution to universalize access to technologies, the health manufacturing industry, bioeconomy and ecosystem services, the care economy, circular economy and sustainable tourism.
