The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda has definitively approved the Informative Study of the High Speed Line Project between Burgos and Vitoria-Gasteiz, a work that will involve an investment of almost 1200 million euros.
The study proposes a new high-speed line for exclusive passenger traffic and a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It consists of 93.6 kilometers of standard gauge double track layout that will allow the journey between Burgos and Vitoria in 30 minutes. The new line will consist of two sections, Burgos-Pancorbo and Pancorbo-Vitoria.
On January 10, 2018, the announcement submitting this informative study to public information was published for the first time in the Official State Gazette.
On December 1, Adif put out to tender the works to build the platform which will connect the Burgos-Vitoria high-speed line with the integration of the railway in the capital of Alava for an amount of 33.3 million euros and an execution period of 12 months.
The work, which will be financed with Next Generation Funds from the European Union, will include the construction of a 70-meter-long viaduct on the A-4302 road and a pergola on the Madrid-Hendaia conventional railway line, which will have 115 meters of length.
The route runs partly through floodplain areas in the vicinity of the Zadorra, for which reason a detailed study of flooding and the impact on the line and the future intermodal station of Jundiz.
The connection with Burgos of the Basque high-speed network, known as Basque “Y”, is one of the issues that remained pending for the development of this infrastructure, in addition to the connection with Navarra, once the unknowns about the arrival of the TAV to the capitals had been cleared up.
