The General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) announced a mobilization to the Government Palace for the Thursday, March 13in rejection of the labor reform promoted by the Executive, which – according to the union guild – seeks to eliminate benefits such as compensation for service time (CTS) and the bonuses, incorporating them into the monthly salary through the annual integral remuneration (RIA).
“There is one there is a campaign of businessmen who transgress freedom of association,” said Gerónimo López Sevillano, general secretary of the CGTP, to the Republic.
The union leader said that measures such as the perfect suspension of work and collective cessations are currently being applied, affecting affiliated leaders in most unions. “Some unions have more than 80 or 100 days on strike without any solution,” he warned.
He also questioned the lack of government call to resolve collective bargaining in the public sector. And to date, according to Gerónimo López, they have not summoned the corresponding commission.
On the labor reform, López Sevillano criticized that the Ministry of Labor seeks to implement the RIA, a scheme that, he explained, would replace the payment of bonuses, CTS and vacations for a monthly amount, which would reduce labor benefits.
The general secretary of the CGTP announced that these issues will be addressed at a conference scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 am in MAY DOS PLAZA N ° 4.
“I call on workers: it was time to unite and go to the streets to defend our rights against the labor reform that the government promotes, as well as against collective cessations and arbitrary dismissals that threaten freedom of association,” he concluded.
What is the river, according to the CGTP
The Minister of Labor, through the Ministerial Resolution No. 018-2025-TRof January 27, 2025, approved the Early Agenda 2025, in which the implementation of the annual integral remuneration (RIA) is proposed. This measure would imply the elimination of the right to gratifications in July and December, as well as compensation for time of services (CTS).
Likewise, a project is being prepared to modify the Law of Collective Relations, which regulates trade union organizations, collective bargaining and the right to strike, without the participation of union centrals.
It should be remembered that the elimination of bonuses and the CTS has already been raised previously by the former president of Congress, Maricarmen Alva, in defense of large economic groups. However, due to the strong mobilization of the unions, the proposal had to be withdrawn.
