The transport and communications sector revealed the launch of the project of the Chancay-Pucallpa Railwaya large initiative that will benefit certain regions of the country.

In a recent interview, Miranda said that the terms of reference for the project have already been established and that the call for preinversion studies could begin shortly.

MTC announced 900 km Chancay-Pucallpa Railway

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) explained that the Chancay-Pucallpa Railway project will cover a distance of 900 kilometers and will have an estimated investment higher than 14,000 million dollars.

In this regard, David Miranda, director of Infrastructure Management and Transport Services of the MTC, explained that this project will be one of the longest railroads in the country, with the additional challenge of crossing the Peruvian Sierra.

“The port of Chancay port to Pucallpa (Ucayali) is a fairly important challenge, we will start with the studies and for this we elaborate the terms of reference that will allow to have all the points that will be developed by an eventual consultant, in terms of mapping of the area, optimal route, dimension of the operation and exact cost of the project, ”he said.

Speaking to the Andean agency, Miranda reported that the terms of reference for the project have already been established and that, in the next month, the call to hire pre -investment studies may be initiated. “We have already released the terms of reference this month and in the next month we could initiate the call to hire this service for the pre -investment study,” he said.

In addition, he remarked that the project of this railway was born as a public investment initiative, but additional participation mechanisms, such as private or foreign investment, depending on the conditions of the road, could be incorporated.

“The Railways are born as investment projects Public, so much so that the rules established in the country are followed for the execution of this type of projects. Along the way, seeing the conditions that are presented, new mechanisms (participation of private and/or foreign investment) can be incorporated, ”he said.

Previously, the MTC also stressed that the Chancay-Pucallpa railroad will benefit more than 12 million people from the regions of Lima, Pasco, Huánuco and Ucayali. This new transport system will not only be focused on cargo transfer, but can also be used by passengers.

David Miranda stressed that all the railroads contemplated in the MTC They will be dual purpose: load and passengers, which will allow to expand its positive impact on various areas. “All railroads we are contemplating in the MTC are passenger and cargo trains,” Miranda said.
