The extraordinary session of the Arequipa Regional Council (CRA), where the extension of the debate period of addendum 13 for the Majes Siguas II project would be discussed, was suspended due to lack of a quorum.
At the meeting called for this Wednesday, December 29, at 11:00 am, only five legislators attended: Harbeth Zúñiga, Ysrael Zúñiga, Miguel Guzmán, Elmer Pinto and Chriss Díaz (virtually).
Harbeth Zúñiga pointed out that the point to be discussed, according to the summons, was the “extension of the term of addendum 13 motivated by a government office.” As recalled, the last extension to discuss this issue expires on December 30. According to Zúñiga, the Regional Council does not have the power to postpone this.
“You have to somehow decide once and for all and show the political will that must exist in this collegiate to openly address the issue of Addendum 13 and break it down, and put interests, losses and be able to decide on one side of the balance. in the well-being of the interests of the region ”, said the council Harbeth Zúñiga in statements to the press.
His partner Silvio Arias indicated that the priority is not Majes Siguas II, but rather the construction of the intermediate basin dam and then the maintenance and reconstruction of the Colca Siguas transfer system.
“If we don’t have the first, how can we move on to the third step? So, more addenda, more damage to the State, more deception. Nor will I accept blackmail from a foreign company in my region. It is time to say ‘enough’, regain dignity and work honestly, “says the counselor, in a statement.
This call was questioned on Tuesday by some directors because Governor-in-charge Kimmerlee Gutiérrez informed the CRA that the Cobra concessionaire did not agree to suspend the contract until January 31, 2022.
