Council of Ministers will approve tax incentives tomorrow to boost the aquaculture sector

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, today led the meeting of the Executive Board for the Development of the Aquaculture Sector, where he announced the recovery of tax incentives to promote the development of aquaculture in the country, as a new engine of development and decentralized employment generator.

Representatives of the National Aquaculture Society, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Committee of the National Society of Industries, the National Fisheries Society and the Sechura Seafood Council participated in the meeting. In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Production (Produce), the National Fisheries Health Agency (Sanipes) and the Technological Institute of Production (ITP) were present

Minister Francke pointed out that, within the framework of the powers delegated to legislate on tax matters granted by the Congress of the Republic, tomorrow the Council of Ministers will debate and eventually approve the application of the tax regime to the aquaculture, forestry and wildlife sector. Income and the benefit of accelerated depreciation regulated in article 10 of Law No. 31110, Law of the agricultural labor regime and incentives for the agricultural and irrigation, agro-export and agro-industrial sectors.

“This is a very good first step for the aquaculture sector because it will be possible to correct an error that has not allowed to give impetus to the development of the activity, since the incentives should not have been eliminated. Now the incentives are being returned and we will continue working to give them greater opportunities, ”said the head of the MEF.

It should be remembered that the Congress of the Republic yesterday published Law 31380, a Law that delegates to the Executive Power the power to legislate on tax, fiscal, financial and economic reactivation matters in order to contribute to closing social gaps.

This rule in its article 3, numeral 1 subsection a.11 indicates that the Income Tax regime and the benefit of accelerated depreciation, including the term of validity, will be applied to the Aquaculture, Forestry and Wildlife Sector, regulated in Article 10 of Law 31110, for which the particularities of said sectors will be taken into account.

In turn, the representatives of the aquaculture sector highlighted that this measure is important for the 2022 tax year. They explained that the activity requires extending the period of validity of these benefits to advance their development and expand the frontier of technified crops, in addition to have trained professionals.
