Almost two million Peruvians will be mobilized for Fiestas Patrias and many of them will seek the sun

The long holiday for Fiestas Patrias is approaching and expectations for the tourism sector are quite positive. Elizabeth Galdo, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, said that around 1,700,000 compatriots would be mobilized nationwide, thus generating an economic impact of US$200 millionThis projection would in turn allow for job creation, one of the main points for reactivation.

Along the same lines, the Tourism Guild of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) predicts a 12% increase in sales of tourist services, compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Juan Stoessel, CEO of Casa Andina, foresees a 10% growth in the hotel sector, compared to the same period last year.

According to Marienela Mendoza, president of the CCL Tourism Guild, the average ticket for the three days (27, 28 and 29) would be between S/400 and S/600 and the purchase of tickets through Cyber Wow -from July 15 to 18- was taken advantage of, increasing by 142% compared to Cyber in July 2023.

More buses, fewer planes

The main means of transport would be the interprovincial bus (61%), private mobility (14.2%), cars or collective vans (11.9%), minivan or agency bus (5.7%), according to Mincetur. Thus, redBus, a leading company in bus ticket sales, projects that bus trips to the interior would increase by 230%, compared to a normal week, that is, without celebrations.

On the other hand, the plane would be the least used means of transport, with only a 4.7% share. In contrast, Sky Airline anticipates around 300 flights from July 25 to 30.

Carlos Loayza, general manager of Canatur, points out that the explanation for this trend would be the major problem of air interconnectivity that we still have in Peru.

“There is still inefficient air connectivity in our country, which means that a lot of the tourist flow on long weekends like this one is by road. So, the regions that are closest to each other are always the ones that have the greatest influx of visitors,” he points out.

He also stressed that this would not only be about Lima inland, but also about some tourist circuits from the interior to Lima, as Lima is recovering and is also showing itself as an opportunity for tourism, becoming a pole of great attraction for nearby regions.

In search of warmth

According to data from Mincetur, 71% of the trips would be driven by residents of other regions of Peruwhile Lima would contribute with the remaining 29% of the total trips. As for the destination, 69.5% would take a tourist trip outside their region, while 30.5% would do so within.

The main places that Lima residents would visit would be Ica with 19.9% (Paracas, Chincha), the Lima region itself (16.1%), highlighting Huaura, Cañete, Canta and Huaral, Junín with 10.3%, especially Huancayo; and Piura (9.3%) including Sechura and the beaches.

“Domestic tourists are looking for places a little further away, like the northern beaches. For example, Máncora or Vichayito to find some warmth from the cold,” says Mendoza, spokesperson for the CCL.

In the case of residents from other regions of the country, they would visit Ancash with 15.5%, followed by Lima (13.3%) and the San Martín region (12.5%), highlighting Tarapoto, Moyobamba and Lamas, the Piura region (8.8%) and the La Libertad region (8.0%).

The most important spa in Trujillo

In order to recover the tourism of the Huanchaco Resort, the private sector will carry out a series of promotions to achieve its projection of 20,000 visitors for the National Holidayswith 60% of the hotels already booked. “There will be free visits to tourist sites, as well as rides on totora reed boats, a festival on July 28 and tasting of typical dishes, among other activities,” said the president of the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Related Businesses of Huanchaco (AHORA Huanchaco), Vanesa Guevara.

They have competition

Cusco and Arequipa, the long-time favourites, expect 15,000 and 12,000 visitors, respectively. According to John Santos, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cusco, the Mountain of Seven Colors and the Huamantay Lagoon would be the most popular natural attractions. For his part, Julio Cáceres, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Arequipa, says that Colca will set the standard. However, Marienela Mendoza says that the Central Jungle (Oxapampa, Pozuzo, La Merced) would be giving it competition.

Protected Natural Areas will have promotional rates

The Ministry of the Environment (Minam), through the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp) invites all Peruvians to learn about and appreciate 17 of our protected natural areas nationwide with a promotional rate of 2×1 on admission until July 29 to celebrate the National Holidays.

This measure seeks to promote domestic tourism by encouraging the conservation of natural and cultural heritage. Some of the protected areas that you can enter with this fee are the Junín National Reserve, the Los Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary, the Manu National Park, among others.
