Indecopi, through the Directorate of Distinctive Signs (DSD), delivered the operating authorization certificate of the Regulatory Council of the Amazonas Peru Cocoa Denomination of Origin.
This group will ensure that this product is marketed while maintaining its unique characteristics and high quality, in order to be positioned in international markets, boosting the competitiveness of cocoa producers.
During his participation in the VI Latin American Cocoa and Chocolate Forum, which takes place within the framework of the XV Cocoa and Chocolate Show 2024, the executive president of Indecopi, Alberto Villanueva Eslava, was in charge of officially presenting the Procacao Amazonas Perú Association with the certificate of authorization to operate as a regulatory council.
“From now on, producers from the provinces of Bagua and Utcubamba, in the Amazonas region, will be authorized to formally use the designation of origin Cacao Amazonas Perú and strengthen their promotion and differentiation strategy in the market,” he said.
The ceremony highlighted the technical and financial support of the Peruvian-Swiss Intellectual Property Project – Pesipro (phase 2), which made possible the formation of the regulatory council and the training of its members.
The role of Regulatory Council will be assumed by the Association of Organized Producers of the Amazonas Peru Cacao Denomination of Origin (Procacao), which will be dedicated to guiding, monitoring and controlling the production and processing of the product intended for commercialization, verifying compliance with the technical standards and regulations of the designation of origin.
It should be remembered that the designation of origin Cacao Amazonas Peru, granted by Indecopi in August 2016 to distinguish the dry fermented grain with shell (Theobroma Cacao L. Var. “Native cocoa”), benefits the family economy of more than 2,300 producers in the provinces of Bagua and Utcubamba.
At another time, the head of Indecopi delivered the registration of the certification mark “Tingo María Puerta de la Amazonía” to the Provincial Municipality of Leoncio Prado – Rupa Rupa, located in the Huánuco region, which will allow to distinguish the products and services offered by this province, managing to position them in the market.
