Peruvian coffee growers close US$5 million deals with major global markets

A total of 37 coffee producers from Amazonas, San Martín and Cajamarca held negotiations with buyers from Asia, Oceania, Europe and North America through the business roundtable organized by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú).

Under the sectoral brand “Cafés del Perú”, producers met at the II Business Meeting of Coffee Growers that took place in Chachapoyas, Amazonas, and was attended by 16 buyers from Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, Poland, France and the United States.

The objective of this action, led by Promperú and coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), was to connect local producers of specialty coffees (cooperatives, producer associations and production companies) in northeastern Peru with international markets to promote export opportunities.

During the 245 sales meetings, US$418,000 was sold. Sales expectations for the next 12 months are US$5 million, the government institution said.

It is worth noting that the selection of local producers to participate in the business roundtable was carried out through a tasting held on Wednesday, July 10. During the tasting, international buyers chose the producers whose specialty coffees generated the greatest interest.

In 2023, the Amazonas region exported a total of US$53.9 million. 95% of this amount (US$51 million) corresponded to traditional products. Among them, the main one was unroasted and undecaffeinated coffee, which managed to be placed in markets in Europe, Asia, North America and Oceania.
