According to the MEF, the cost between these regions will be reduced and the door will be opened to new markets.
The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, José Arista, reported that the concession of the colloquially known as Tren Macho —which covers the Huancayo – Huancavelica route, in part— will be launched in the first weeks of this month.
According to ProInversión, the route requires an investment of US$394 million and will benefit 1.2 million Peruvians.
“The concession for the Huancayo-Huancavelica train should be issued in the first weeks of July, which I believe will provide greater transitability. It will obviously reduce the cost of transit between Huancayo and Huancavelica and will provide new markets,” said Arista.
As reported by this newspaper, the Tren Macho will be licensed for 30 years (5 years for design and construction, 25 for operation and maintenance) and involves the improvement of the existing railway superstructure.
