Osiptel: mobile portability grew almost 10% during the first half of the year

According to the Private Investment Supervisory Agency in Telecommunications (Osiptel), mobile portability increased by 9.97% in the first half of the year. This performance would have been mainly driven by the portability of postpaid mobile lines, which increased by 20.21%.

While the Postpaid mobile line porting increased from 1 million 862,223 in the first half of 2023 to 2 million 238,663 in the same period this yearthe portability of prepaid lines decreased by 12.25%, from 859,037 to 753,777 between January and June of 2023 and 2024, respectively.

On the other hand, postpaid lines that changed operator represented 74.81% of the total number of portings recorded in the first half of the year, while the remaining 25.19% corresponded to porting of prepaid lines.

Portability in June exceeds 500,000 mobile lines

Mobile number portability reached 509,382 mobile lines in June, the second highest figure so far this year. The result meant an increase of 8.28% compared to mobile portability reported in the same month of 2023.

Of the total number of mobile phone transfers, 74.43% were postpaid and 25.57% were prepaid. In postpaid, 379,119 mobile phone transfers were recorded, which represents an increase of 14.68% compared to June of the previous year.

It is also noted that The operators with the highest portability were Claro and Entel, with 20,709 and 20,459, respectively. In contrast, those with the biggest negative results were Bitel, with 16,501 fewer than the same month last year, and Movistar, with a decrease of 24,572 compared to the same month in 2023.
