Peru and China signed a memorandum of understanding on the substantive conclusion of negotiations for the optimization of the FTA between both countries after the meeting between Presidents Dina Boluarte and Xi Jinping in Beijing.
During the visit of the head of state of Peru, the leader of the Asian giant asserted that both nations must promote cooperation in key areas for economic development, such as mining, energy or agriculture.

The two leaders jointly witnessed the signing of the ‘Joint Action Plan between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Peru from 2024 to 2029’, as well as a series of bilateral cooperation documents on economic and trade matters, digital economy, technological innovation, inspection and quarantine, and the media.
In that line, Peru and China announced that they have substantially completed negotiations to improve the free trade agreement.

Also, before the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcoming ceremony for Boluarte in the square in front of the east gate of the Great Hall of the People. This event marked the beginning of the talks between the two leaders and highlighted the importance and mutual respect in the diplomatic field.
Later, during their meeting, the leader of the Asian giant assured that China provides support to Peru in its role as host of this year’s APEC Economic Leaders Meeting.
He also noted that China and Peru must collaborate to ensure the successful completion of the port of Chancay, as planned, and for it to become a new maritime link between the world’s second largest economy and Latin America.
Likewise, he assured that the Asian giant has expressed its willingness to expand the offer of scholarships for young Peruvian students, with the aim of promoting a more solid educational exchange between both countries. This initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration in various areas such as education, culture, tourism, youth, media, among others.

For her part, Dina Boluarte reiterated her invitation to more Chinese companies to invest in Peru to strengthen the link and cooperation in green development, clean energy infrastructure, among other aspects.

The meeting with her Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping took place this Friday, June 28, on the third day of the head of state’s activities. Prior to that, the president visited the cities of Shenzhen and Shanghai on June 26 and 27, respectively. The Peruvian delegation is expected to visit the Peruvian Embassy in China on Saturday, June 29. After that, the official delegation would be returning to Peruvian territory.
