A few days after the end of the first season of the anchovy resource in the North-Centro Zone, the National Fisheries Society (SNP) reported that 98% of the assigned quota has been captured, equivalent to more than 2.4 million tons. According to the organization’s calculations, this will generate US$1.8 billion in foreign currency from shipments of fishmeal and fish oil.

April’s GDP had already rebounded to 5.28%, largely thanks to the recovery of the anchovy industry, which suffered a hard blow in 2023 due to climate stress.

However, the SNP warns that this prosperity at sea will not be enough to recover the previous damage if a similar result is not replicated in the remainder of the year with the second season, in addition to another good fishing in 2025.

In response, the Ministry of Production (Produce), which recently once again ruled out a reduction in the minimum size of anchovyhas made official a quota of 250,000 tons for the second season, to take place between July 1 and December 31 between coordinates 16°00’LS and the southern end of the maritime domain of our country.

In this hemisphere, the appeal that SNP presented on June 10 against the ruling of the Judiciary that denied the entry of industrial ships to the Paracas national reservea protected area.

In any case, the union expects the biomass to remain stable for the second half of the year, especially in October, when the second northern season would begin. It should be noted that the sector generates 250,000 jobs, of which 18,000 are ship crew, as well as 3,500 mypes indirectly.
