The tax lawyer, Miguel Carrillo, details that, in order to access the discount or exemption from property tax, it is necessary to subtract an amount equivalent to 50 UIT (S/247,500) from the self-assessment value. If this value exceeds 50 UIT, the older adult will only have to pay the remaining difference. On the other hand, the expert mentions: “If the value of my property does not exceed the established limit, I will not have to pay property tax at all.” In order to benefit from this advantage, it is essential to meet the following requirements.

  • Be over 60 years old.
  • Own a single property.
  • This must be in your own name or that of the marital company.
  • It must be used for their housing. It can be used partially for productive, commercial or professional purposes with approval from the respective municipality.
  • Gross income must not exceed 1 monthly UIT (S/5,150).

How to access property tax exemption?

To request the deduction or exemption, the elderly must go to the municipality of their district. It is important that you keep in mind that the documents to be presented include the ID of the owner or legal representative of the property, the last payment receipt or other document that proves his or her personal income or income from the marital partnership.
