The United Kingdom is positioned as the main supplier of whiskey in this first quarter with a 92% intervention in the market. They are followed by the United States and France, both with 3%
In Peruvian imports within the liquor category, during the period January – April 2024, due to the Father’s Day campaign, dynamism was only observed in whiskey with an increase of 5% (753,229 liters). The United Kingdom is the main supplier with a share of 92%, followed by the United States (3%) and France (3%), reported the Foreign Trade Research and Development Institute of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (Idexcam-CCL). .
In the case of rum imports, this registered a 6% drop with the acquisition of 1 million 36,251 liters, a figure lower than the liters imported between January and April 2023 (1 million 106,077). Nicaragua is the main supplier country to the Peruvian market of this product, with a 50% share, followed by the Dominican Republic (13%), Colombia (13%) and Mexico (9%).
Meanwhile, gin imports fell by 33%, with the United Kingdom also the main supplier with a 92% share, followed by Spain (5%).
This result is explained, according to Idexcam, because since the beginning of this year an increase in the level of consumption has been observed, taking into account that, in 2023, the country was going through an economic recession. According to the report from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), between January and March of this year, private final consumption spending registered an increase of 1.2% associated with greater employment and family income.
In that sense, the head of Idexcam, Óscar Quiñones, indicated that import levels in this Father’s Day campaign are higher compared to last year.
