Father’s Day: imports of cotton shirts and footwear rose by up to 36%

China is the main supplier of cotton shirts with a share of 45%. Vietnam is the main distributor of men’s leather footwear in the Peruvian market with a 31% participation.

The imported units of cotton shirts during the Father’s Day campaign – from January to April – showed an increase of 25% compared to the same period in 2023. Likewise, imports of leather footwear for men presented a variation positive of 36%, according to the Foreign Trade Research and Development Institute of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (Idexcam-CCL).

China appears as the main supplier of cotton shirts with a share of 45%, followed by Bangladesh (32%) and India (17%), according to data from the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat).

Idexcam maintained that Bangladesh, gradually and steadily, has been increasing its level of participation as a garment suppliernot only for Peru but also worldwide.

“In the near future, Bangladesh could become our main supplier in this subsector, due to its good level of production and affordable prices,” commented Óscar Quiñones, head of Idexcam.

In addition, 833,906 pairs of leather footwear for men were purchased, with Vietnam being the main supplier country to the Peruvian market with a 31% share.followed by China (21%), Malaysia (13%), India (14%) and Indonesia (6%).

On the other hand, the import of rubber or plastic footwear for men increased by 9% (4.3 million pairs). China leads as a supplier market with a 50% share, followed by Ecuador (13%), Vietnam (13%), Indonesia (9%) and Cambodia (5%).
