Peruvian exports fell 10.4% in April

Peruvian shipments totaled US$4,781 million in April, representing a drop of 10.4% compared to the same month in 2023, where US$5,333 million were recorded. The reduction in traditional (-9.9%) and non-traditional (-11.7%) shipments would explain this contraction, according to the latest report from the Global Economy and Business Research Center of the CIEN-ADEX Exporters Association.

Along these lines, the performance of the traditional supply (US$3,571 million) was influenced by the negative behavior of minerals (-9.2%), hydrocarbons (-3.7%) and fishery products (-62.9%). . Meanwhile, the non-traditional supply (US$1,209) contracted its figures due to the sectors of agribusiness (-6%), metallurgical steel (-10.1%), fishing and aquaculture (-54.8%), non-metallic mining (- -29.5%) and wood (-32.3%), according to the Export Report – April 2024′.

In the mining sector, the US$ FOB amount of copper (-1.3%) was reduced due to lower volumes (-24.8%) despite the increase in its international price by 7.4% more in April 2024, compared to the same month of 2023; while the value of raw gold (54.1%) increased due to the effect of the international price (16.6%) despite the 10.6% drop in exported volume.

On the other hand, Hydrocarbon shipments (-18.9%) were affected by a decrease in the volume of natural gas (-6.6%) and its value (-28.6%); and fishing due to the reduction in the volume and average price of fishmeal, with a decrease of 70.5% and 3.4%, respectively. Traditional agriculture alone achieved a growth of 24.6%, reaching US$21,753,000.

In addition, Fishing for direct human consumption, in terms of non-traditional exports, had the greatest decline due to lower volumes of squid (-75.5%). Iron and steel also fell 10.1%, while non-metallic mining and the wood sector did so by 29.5% and 32.3%, respectively.

Those that had a positive closing were the textile sector with 31.3%, clothing with 1.9%, metalworking with 21%, chemicals with 3.4% and miscellaneous with 22.2%.
