The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) reported that the Chancay Megaport being built by the Cosco Shipping company north of Lima is 85% complete, just six months after its inauguration.

In dialogue with TV Perú Noticias, Minister Raúl Pérez-Reyes explained that the terminal will have a capacity of between 1 and 1.5 million TU, which will allow the country to become a gateway for the region for Asian imports and exports.

“We have the Callao hub (North Pier and South Pier), and Chancay is the second most important hub in the region, since we have a capacity of more than 5 million TEUs and the expansions will take us above 7 million TEUs” said the head of the MTC.

According to Pérez-Reyes, the Chinese capital terminal “will allow us to increase our economic growth rate in the next 30 or 40 years,” in order to improve the income of Peruvian families due to better-paid work.

“Here there is a fight against poverty that has growth and economic development as its goal,” he noted.
