Trade ministers from the 21-member Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum issued a joint statement at the conclusion of their meeting in Arequipa on May 17-18.
The meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade of APEC 2024, chaired by the head of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, Elizabeth Galdo, mainly allowed to encourage the promotion of trade and investment in products that lead to positive environmental results.
In that sense, reaffirmed their commitment to continue promoting trade policies and programs that reduce obstacles and improve their capabilities to participate in marketsthrough global and regional value chains.
Furthermore, in the statement, the ministers acknowledged that trade has faced strong obstacles in recent times and reiterated their commitment to keeping markets open, removing unnecessary barriers and strengthening trade and investment facilitation for all.
Likewise, they reiterated the importance of continue advancing the agenda of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) as an important shared, market-driven initiative that contributes to comprehensive, high-level regional commitments.
