The Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Ángel Manero, announced the creation of an agricultural irrigation strip that will cross the entire mountain range of Peru, and that will have an estimated investment of US$120 million in its first stage alone.

At a conference of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), the head of Midagri said that the project is in the design stage. Previously, the signing of an agreement with the GORE Ancash for the execution of the legal physical sanitation of the Chinecas lands had been announced.

“We have finished the conceptual note, which is the design, of a large irrigation project for the entire Andean region. Perhaps, the most spectacular of Midagri in its entire history. There will be 120,000 hectares of terrace recovery throughout the mountains and jungle area. , that is three times Majes Siguas,” he highlighted.

The investment estimated by the Peruvian Government, the official explained, amounts to US$120 million in its first stage. To get an idea, Chavimochic’s investment, in its third stage, reaches US$750 million; while, in Chinecas, it exceeds US$700 million.

“The president will announce it on July 28, because by that time the profile will be finalized. This will have an impact on the entire Andean region, it is aimed at small producers and peasant communities. We are giving them impact projects,” he stressed. .

Regarding Chinecas, Manero explained that there will be 83,000 new hectares that will be incorporated into national productive development. The Ancashino project is considered one of the 15 largest of its kind in the world.
