Petroperú unions demand resignation of the board after privatization announcement

The board of directors of Petroperú put the privatization of the company on the table before the General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM), in order to once again achieve financial self-sustainability. After this, the state union organizations ask for the resignation of the board.

The unions affiliated with the National Federation of Petroleum, Energy and Related Workers of Peru (Fenpetrol) and the Federation of National Unity of Petroleum and Energy (Fedunpe) expressed, through a statement, their “strong rejection” of the proposed privatization of Petroperú and they held Dina Boluarte responsible for the “disastrous hydrocarbon management.”

In addition, They requested an international audit and demanded a review of the debt renegotiationcarried out in Spain with the former president of the board of directors Carlos Paredes Lanatta.

On the other hand, they set a conclusive period of 24 hours for the board to rule “due to the lack of transparency, lack of ethics and morality to respond to the interests of the private sector.”

Why do they want to privatize Petroperú?

Petroperú specified that, according to its latest calculations, they would be requiring an additional US$2.2 billion; However, he recognizes that requesting more funding from the State would be irresponsible, which is why he proposed his “autonomy in private management.”

Sources from the sector told La República that the board of directors must clarify the situation with the audited financial statements – soon to be delivered on May 31 – as well as the possible concern of the bondholders to know if the debt will be honored – which will be pays every six months, with the next payment being in June—or if, otherwise, it would be assumed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).
