Exchange rate: dollar closes higher today, Monday, May 13, with S/3.7280

The exchange rate closed today with S/3.7280, 0.24% more than the last day, where it targeted S/3.7190 according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

In the parallel market, the greenback is now at S/3,710 for purchase and S/3,730 for sale; while in banking, the purchase and sale is at S/3,682 and S/3,772, respectively.

Likewise, during the day, the dollar was pressured upwards by demand from local corporations, taking it to a maximum level of S/3,733. Meanwhile, US$253 million were traded in the market at an average price of S/3.7224 and there were maturities of exchange swaps sold for S/650.1 million, which were renewed for S/470 million, says Asvim Asencios, currency trader at Renta4 SAB.

On the one hand, China’s inflation rate increased 0.3% in April compared to last year, above market expectations (0.1%). On the other hand, the markets are attentive to the inflation data in the United States soon to be published this Wednesday. It is also expected that the general index will be at 3.4% annualizedsays Asencios.

So far this year, the dollar has accumulated a variation of 0.57% and in interannual terms, of 1.86%, according to the BCRP.
