Exchange rate: dollar starts falling at S/3.7161 this Thursday, May 9

The dollar exchange rate began this Thursday, May 9, downwards and stood at S/3.7161, according to preliminary data from the Bloobmerg international currency exchange portal.

The day before, the greenback had started its career at S/3.7275 and then deescalated to S/3.7250 at the official closing of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

This occurs while it is known that 29% of Peruvians fell into monetary poverty at the end of 2023, according to official data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) to which La República was able to access.

At the international level, China’s exports grow in April, after sinking the previous month. Data from the General Administration of Customs of the Asian giant show a 1.5% year-on-year increase in exports, which in the previous month had sunk 7.5%.

On the other hand, weekly applications for unemployment benefits in the United States increased more than expected: there were 22,000 more applications, which leaves the seasonally adjusted statistics at 231,000.
