Can I withdraw my AFP if I am abroad? This is what the regulations say

After 15 days of the promulgation of Law 32002, the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) has issued, this Friday, May 3, the operating procedure through SBS Resolution No. 01623-2024. This regulation establishes the regulations that will allow contributors to withdraw up to S/20,600 from their private pension funds in 4 disbursements. In accordance with this regulation, members of the Private Pension System They may submit requests for extraordinary and optional withdrawal of contributions within a maximum period of 90 calendar days, counting from May 20, the date on which the regulations come into force.

In addition, the Association of Pension Fund Administrators (AAFP) has already published the calendar for the presentation of requests for withdrawal of funds from the AFP. Its reception will begin on May 20 and will be organized according to the last digit of the applicant’s national identity document (DNI).

Faced with this new news, one of the most popular questions is whether Peruvians residing abroad have the possibility of withdrawing their funds.

Can Peruvians abroad withdraw money from their AFPs?

In accordance with article 4 of the Resolution S.B.S. No. 01623-2024, it is established that Peruvians residing abroad or those who face physical limitations can now submit their applications to withdraw up to 4 Tax Tax Units (UIT)which must be carried out virtually to facilitate access to the process without the need for physical presence.

“Affiliates who are abroad or are physically unable, can submit their request for extraordinary and optional withdrawal of funds or withdrawal through the channels and platforms that are enabled for this purpose, being the AFP responsible for establishing the protocols that allow them to identify the requesting owner. These protocols must be disseminated by the AFP, prior to the start date of the submission of applications, on its website and in other media that it deems necessary, in accordance with the provisions of paragraphs 3.3 and 3.4 of the article. 3 of this OP”, details the regulation.
