Carlos Oliva will not continue as president of the Fiscal Council, a position he has held since December 2020. Sources from the sector told La República that President Dina Boluarte did not accept his renewal and will now look for a replacement in the entity attached to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. (MEF).
Within the Fiscal Council there is no clarity as to whether Oliva’s departure is due to his criticism against the transfer of S/100 million signed by Dina Boluarte for the regional government of Ayacucho, the over-indebtedness of the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima or the “setback” in the fiscal austerity policies announced by MEF.
The source tells this newspaper that in December 2023 there should have been new light on Oliva’s continuity on the Fiscal Council; Now, it is in the hands of the board of directors to choose the new president from among its five members.
The letter from the MEF for the removal of Carlos Oliva arrived last Tuesday, April 23, two days after the former Minister of Economy and Finance in an interview with La República warned about the “unusual” injection of resources from the Contingency Reserve for the stadium Cradle of American Liberty of Ayacucho —S/100 million in total—.
Completing the board of the Fiscal Council are Carolina Trivelli, José Valderrama León, Alonso Segura and Waldo Mendoza. The Fiscal Council was created in 2023 with Law No. 30099 and is an autonomous commission dependent on this portfolio.
In the preparation of this journalistic note, Carlos Oliva preferred to remain on the sidelines and not express any opinion when consulted by this newspaper.
